Background & Experience
Dr. Theo A. Cope is a US national, Psychologist, and Psychotherapist who has lived and worked in China for over 20 years. He holds a PhD in Applied Psychology from South China Normal University, where his research focused on Analytical (Jungian) Psychology and Chinese culture. He also holds an MA in Psychology and a BA in Gerontology from the University of Oregon, USA.
Since beginning his practice in 2000, Dr. Cope has worked in organisational, private practice, and international school settings, treating a wide range of mental and psychological concerns. He is the former Head of the Mental Health Department at Raffles Medical Group in Beijing, succeeding Dr. Claudine Hyatt, and has provided therapy and training to clients from over 45 countries.
With more than a decade of experience in the international education sector, he has supported students, staff, and school leadership through counselling, consultation, and wellbeing workshops. He has also led seminars for global companies such as BMW, Volkswagen, and Google, as well as various embassies, focusing on workplace wellness, stress management, communication, and the psychosocial impacts of COVID-19.
